INTERESTING ABOUT AUGSBURG

With around 295,000 inhabitants, Augsburg is the third largest city in Bavaria. The state capital  Munich can be reached by train in about 35 - 40 minutes.

Augsburg and Munich are considered the safest cities in Germany.

Augsburg enchants all visitors with its picturesque old town: "You feel like in a picture book!"

HISTORY

The city of Augsburg is rich in tradition and culture. With over 2,000 years of history, it has a lot to offer - from the Romans to the textile industry. The father of the music genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here, Bertolt Brecht attended the grammar school in Augsburg and wrote his “Baal”. The Augsburg Religious Peace in 1555 had a decisive impact on the city's self-understanding of peace. Numerous water towers, the hydropower plant on the Wolfzahnau or the hydropower plant on the  Hochablass testify to a long tradition of hydraulic engineering in the city.

MUSEUMS

Augsburg is home to many attractive museums. The
"Mozarthaus" tells the story of the music genius and his Augsburg father Leopold Mozart. The German Baroque Gallery is now housed in the Schaezlerpalais, one of the most important Rococo buildings. The new gallery in the Höhmannhaus shows modern art and in the “tim”, the state textile and industrial museum, visitors can experience textile history according to the motto “man-machine-pattern-fashion”. There is also something for the little museum fans: Jim Knopf or the Urmel - the stars of the world-famous Augsburg puppet box - give their guest performance in "the box", the museum of the Augsburg Marionette Theater.

ATTRACTIONS – cultural- and historical
treasures

The oldest existing social settlement in the world, the Fuggerei, is one of the city's special attractions, as is the Golden Hall with its splendid ornate ceiling.

The town hall is one of the most important  secular buildings of the Renaissance north of the Alps. Augsburg's churches bear witness to Martin Luther's reformation and influence on the city's history. With more bridges than Venice, Augsburg is a city of water, of which the magnificent  fountains also testify. And Mediterranean flair comes up in the old town, with its winding streets and small squares.
